Little Easter Lovelies

Well, I finally worked out what to do with the gorgeous Angora and here they are. Little bunny egg cosies (pattern to follow on the next newsletter). I have also made a great Blue Sky Alpacas Chicken named Margery and once I've finished her pal Maud I'll take a pic of them both.

I managed to knit most of Maud in between bike rides on Sunday as Daisy and Poppy both got new bikes on Saturday so I trotted round the block behind them with Lola in her buggy twice. They had been looking forward so much to going out that they didn't leave me alone until I agreed to take them and then spent the whole time arguing about who should be in front, even in the photo Poppy (with her stroppy face) kept edging forward.

I am up to the armholes on Daisy's birthday cardi knitted in 'Bombay' cotton by Katia as I'm on a deadline, 19th April and 3mm needles!! The Tropical Storm socks are up to the heel (on the first sock) and the Whisper cardi from Interweave is lagging behind because I have 8" of the back to do, increasing 2 sts every other row. Not good mentally, I think.

So what am I going to make with this little lovely? Wristwarmers I think or a little hat for Lola with an angora edging.

this gorgeous Angora yarn arrived from Katia last week and has been eyeing me up ever since saying 'Knit Me!' What it doesn't realise is that I have already got a little cardi in Araucania Ranco and a pair of toe-up socks in Cherry Tree Hills Sockittome otn!

Oh well, what's one more project!

Happy Birthday to The Hut

We always have a good time at Click but last week we had a more interesting evening than usual. We celebrated three years of The Hut with Chocolate Brownies (with candles!) and had a great evening.

Halfway through the evening a Fire Engine stopped outside and one of the firemen popped in to see what we were up to. When he asked whose birthday it was (we also had birthday banners) Carmell was quick to speak up and claim the day (and the fireman) as hers and as you can see, he had no complaints! I can't always guarantee that an evening at The Hut will be as eventful as this!

Thanks to Chris who was in the right place at the right time - and hadn't forgotten to put a chip in his camera!

Noro Sock yarn flies in!

I was a little dubious about this yarn, having read various comments on Ravelry and other forums, but I needn't have worried - It's FANTASTIC!

As you can see from the start of my sock, the colour change is incredibly subtle and the yarn gives a close, even knitted finish, ideal for socks as this will make them more hardwearing.

The stitches don't split whilst it's being knitted despite it being a single ply yarn and I can't wait for my sock to grow so that I can discover all the colours on the ball.

I am already planning a pouch for my ipod Touch (I have a button in mind as well!) and a mini knitted flower that's taking shape in my head until I have finished my first sock.

Although the yarn isn't the softest I am confident that with a bit of careful washing it will feel lovely. Let me know what you think.

I am finding knitting this yarn addictive, I did all this yesterday, despite managing four hyped up, chocolate fuelled little monkeys (and the fifth who, thankfully, is too young for a chocolate fix just yet) and the usual chores!

Deck The Hut with Boughs of Holly

We have finally got the window finished and we hope you like it! Everything is either made from items from the shop or can be found in the shop. We only bought brown paper for the parcels and the lights for the tree and wreath. I need to thank Andrea for making the fabulous fireplace and Lucy who made the gorgeous shawl (just look at the back of it, you can't believe all the work that has gone into it! It is made using Cherry Tree Hills Merino Laceweight yarn. If you get the chance pop down and have a look at the window and let us know what you think. There is a list in the window of what everything is made from. In the competition for the best dressed window in Woburn Sands we were Highly Commended.

Knitting is my Prozac

I realised the other day that when I don't get a chance to pick up my needles for a few days I start to get a bit twitchy. Knitting calms me down and even if I only finish a few rows I can see I have achieved something, which is very useful on otherwise stressful days! I have therefore decided that knitting is my Prozac. Am I the only one?

We have had a very busy week, trying to get all our new stock online (nowhere near finished) and trying to do our Christmas Window (nearly finished) ready for the judging on Sunday. We got third prize last year and this year glimpsing in windows up and down the High Street I can see that competition is fierce. The theme this year is an Edwardian Christmas. Once our window is completed tomorrow I'll post a pic so you can all judge how creative we've been this year!

I am also itching to try the new Cherry Tree Hills Laceweight Merino which has a massive 2400m on a hank and if doubled up becomes 4 ply. Lorna is already knitting a shrug in it and it looks fab. However, I have set myself the task of knitting all the children socks for Christmas so I have nearly finished 3 socks (hate grafting) and only have 7 to go! I am determined NOT to start anything else until I have done them all.

A Grand Day Out

We had a fabulous day at The Knitting & Stitching Show on Sunday. There were 45 of us altogether (including Lola!) and everyone was discussing their purchases on the way home. As well as buying a couple of projects to add to the pending pile I also found a few new things for the shop, so watch this space! Lola charmed everyone by being really good and smiling at everyone as they got off the coach. This year I was particularly taken with all the hand dyed yarn we saw and have come home with lots of ideas!

A Busy Weekend and a Competition!

We had a brilliant weekend showing everyone at The Woburn Oyster Festival our fabulous yarns and as you can see from the pbotograph the stall looked stunning! We taught people how to knit and met lots of new people who didn;t know about the shop. I need to thank Andrea, Kath, Tara and Vicky who were kind enough to help me over the weekend and I also need to thank my husband Mark who literally 'manned' the shop with the help of Liz, his cousin and web guru!

This week we have a competiton for you! This picture is of Tara's dogs Matilda and Phoebe. What we are looking for is a caption for the picture. The winner will receive a hank of Feza yarn in their choice of colour and a pair of needles together with a pattern to make the scarf that Matilda is wearing. Exciting Times!

Exciting Times at The Hut!
We have had a great time over the past week or so enjoying the arrival of winter stock! At the moment all our winter stock is being photographed for the website and we hope to have it online within a couple of weeks.
Lana Grossa have some fabulous new yarns and the new pattern book (number 32) arrived yesterday. It has some stunning designs in and we will be adding to our initial range of Winter Lana Grossa yarns to ensure we stock all the yarns needed for all the patterns in the book.

If you receive our newsletter, you will have heard about the Feza, which is amazing! If you like knitting scarves then this yarn is for you! Each hank is made up of at least nine different yarns hand tied together to create a beautiful effect. We are offering a free scarf pattern with every hank (see picture). There are also lovely patterns for a poncho and a cardigan which we will be adding to the website shortly.

We are very busy this week getting ready for Woburn Oyster Festival which is a great day out if you get the chance to go. There’s lots going on including live music, street entertainment and a children’s funfair making it a great day out. We have a stall in the main marquee and are taking some of our unusual stock and lots of kits (including the new range of Rooster kits). I’ll let you know how we get on!

Summer Workshops @ The Knitting Hut

Beading and Embellishment
This workshop will teach you how to incorporate beads and decorative stitches in your knitting to create a beautiful drawstring bag, ideal for using at a special occasion! The skills you will learn will give you the confidence to be adventurous with your knitting! As usual, all materials will be provided and there is a wide range of yarn to choose from for your project.
Monday 7th August 10am - 2.30pm

Knit, Purl & More!
Have you recently started knitting? If so, this workshop is for you. The day is aimed at those knitters who can knit and purl and are itching to move onto learn new skills to create something beautiful. The day will be based around a bag project and will include other techniques such as shaping, cabling and more! All materials for the day will be provided.

The Click&Clack evening is proving so popular that we are going to hold it one Wednesday morning a month as well as the evening sessions. This will give people who perhaps can’t get out in the evenings a chance to come and join in!

Of course, we will not be serving Buck’s Fizz at the morning sessions but a cup of coffee and a piece of homemade cake! If you have a cake recipe, which is delicious, please let us know as we try to make a different type of cake each month.

The dates for Click&Clack for July and August are shown below, so don’t forget to put them in your diary! Your first visit is free and after that there is a £3 charge, which includes refreshments. If you need help with a project, why not bring it along and we’ll be happy to help you.

The Knitting Hut only opened in February 2006 and in this short period of time we have stuffed the shop full of exciting yarns from Italy to America (via Nepal!) and an ever increasing range of accessories.

The shop is staffed only by experienced knitters and offers a comprehensive service to both the beginner and more experienced knitter.

We stock major European brands such as ggh, Bergere de France and Lana Grossa and from further afield Blue Sky Alpacas, Crystal Palace Yarns and South West Trading Co. We also love knitting socks at The Hut and have a wide range of sock yarn from Opal, Schoeller & Stahl, Austermann and Lana Grossa.
